Agnosia:

An inability to recognize and identify objects or persons using one or more of the senses.

The newly sighted:

Those who were born blind but have a surgery to gain sight. These patients who have lived several years having known only blindness, are seeing for the first time.

Neva

As a young adult she has formed some concepts of what sight might be like. Her first experience of sight is painful. Despite being very observant, she has a difficult time understanding an overwhelming new sense that was far from what she expected while blind.

The surgeon

Dr. Thompson is interested in determining the two century old question, if a person was born blind, would they immediately identify a shape previously familiar to them only by touch if they were made able to see?

The psychologist

Intent on helping her understand and make use of her new sense, Dr. Miller introduces the colours of the rainbow and helps her explore the hospital grounds.

The mother

Neva’s mother brings her home from the hospital to their house in the countryside. Neva looks forward to seeing her cat for the first time.
